For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this revered New Orleans proverb, it simply means…..let the good times roll! And that is exactly what New Orleans CREW has planned for the 2008 CREW Connects conference on April 3 & 4, 2008, in the Big Easy.
No conference in New Orleans begins without a celebration! Thursday evening, April 3, we will kick off the official opening of the conference with cocktails at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on historic Canal Street, which will be followed by Dine Arounds at some of New Orleans renowned restaurants.
Our conference theme this year is CREW Connects to the Future. Participating chapters will focus on the future of their specific market areas and the effect of the national/local economy in those markets. In addition to the panel presentations, we will have speakers from the financial and banking world at the Friday morning general opening session and at our luncheon session.
While the conference may end in the early afternoon on Friday, April 4, the fun will only have just begun! If you haven’t otherwise made you own plans to explore the City of New Orleans, New Orleans CREW is planning on taking the Dine Around to a whole new level. We have added, on Friday evening, a fantastic dinner at the Bourbon House Oyster Bar & Grill from which designated captains for this event will lead you to many of our famous and infamous watering holes or music venues for late evening entertainment!

The CREW Careers committee partners with a non-profit organization to educate girls on real estate careers and its many facets. Your participation is necessary to make this a great day for the Girl Scouts this year! We need CREW members and experts in every field to solicit financial and in-kind support, to serve as advisors to the girls, to act as judges to review the projects the girls develop, and to represent every discipline of real estate. We have planned the event for Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Our tour will begin at Frost Bank Tower, one of downtown’s premier office buildings and continue with a walking tour of the Second Street District, finalizing our journey at the Seaholm Power Plant. We will discuss multiple architectural styles and show the girls many examples along the way! The tour will be followed with lunch at Frost Tower while the girls develop their own designs of Seaholm with the guidance of our many volunteers. We will see lots of new development as we plan our way to Seaholm!
Please wear walking or tennis shoes on the day of the event. We will be both inside and outside on the day of the event.

Texas Lures & Leaders Annual Fishing Tournament provides an organized fishing competition platform for bringing Persons inthe Commercial Real Estate arena together in order to solidify existing business relationships, create new business opportunities and to educate/promote environmental conservation and preservation.
Net proceeds from the 2008 Texas Lures & Leaders Tournament benefi t Girls Inc. of Houston and the Texas Parks & Wildlife organizations. Girls Inc. of Houston is the local affi liate of the national nonprofi t youth organization, Girls, Inc., whose mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold through high quality educational programs. The Real Estate Council of Austin early this year unveiled its DAPR program (Downtown Austin Park and Ride) as a way to reduce vehicular congestion in Downtown Austin. The DAPR plan calls for the construction of 5 new municipal garages along IH 35 and MoPac and a rubber tired circulator system to move people to and from the garages and around Downtown.
Tom Terkel, President of RECA, will explain the background behind DAPR, the response to their proposal and how this all fits into the conversation about Downtown rail.

Ted C. Jones, PhD is the Director of Investor Relations for Stewart Information Services Corporation (NYSE-STC) and also Senior Vice President-Chief Economist for Stewart Title Guaranty Company. He addresses the information needs of stockholders, conducts on-going research and supports economic and financial analysis for the company and its customers. Jones earned a PhD in finance with a minor in statistics and a master’s degree in land economics and real estate from Texas A&M University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University.
